  • Description

Work has started in Scotland on the foundations of one of the world's major road bridge projects - across the Firth of Forth, within a short distance of the famous Forth railway bridge.

Various angles from the Forth Railway Bridge, from the South side, panning left to look down on to the Queenferry car ferry, with beyond in the mist some I mile to the West where the foundation have started.

Various angles of trains crossing - pan to car ferry - and then to the site beyond of the start of the new road bridge.

Final shot on bridge - (very dark) of the plaque commemorating the opening of the Forth Railway bridge in 1890:

Later scenes are at the site of the new road bridge on the South Side near Port Edgar where under-water foundations are being laid - approach roads and causeways being constructed, etc.

Various angles on work on the foundations - building the causeway, etc with lorries arriving with stone, etc, with the Forth Railway Bridge in background.

Final general view shows the general construction work in foreground with the new causeway running out into the Forth and the Forth Railway bridge beyond. This is looking from South to North across the river.

All these scenes shot under great difficulties with a temperature of 20 degrees - 12 degrees of frost - wind - and fog.
Due to the severe icing conditions there was no work in progress on the railway bridge - great danger of slipping on ice.
Also very wavy as trains pass over - hence unsteadiness - bridge moves!
Herewith printed 'dope! Further information can be got from the London office of John Howard & Co who are responsible for all work excepting building of actual road bridge.
Possibility of speed fluctuation due in intense cold with great difficulty in getting camera to turn over in 12 degrees of frost!
