    ALLEGATIONS OF A TERRORIST PILOT INVOLVING MEMBERS OF THE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF RHODESIA AND NYSALAND WERE MADE YESTERDAY IN A SALISBURY MAGISTRATE'S COURT WHEN TWO MEN APPEARED AT A PREPARATORY EXAMINATION OF ALLEGATIONS OF OFFENSES UNDER RHODESIA'S LAW AND ORDER MAINTENANCE ACT. THE MEN, JOHN CONRADIE, A SOUTH AFRICAN LECTURER IN HISTORY AT THE COLLEGE, AND IAN DIXON, AN EMPLOYEE OF A SALISBURY INDUSTRIAL CONCERN, WERE REMANDED IN CUSTODY FOR TWO WEEKS ON AN ALLEGATION OF CONSPIRING TO CAUSE INJURY TO PEOPLE OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY, OR ALTERNATIVELY OF CONSPIRING TO COMMIT MURDER. ANOTHER ALLEGATION IS THAT THEY WERE FOUND IN POSSESSION OF OFFENSIVE MATERIAL SAID TO BE RUSSIAN-MADE HAND GRENADES.

    CONRADIE AND DIXON WERE REMANDED IN CUSTODY AFTER AN OFFICIAL OF THE ATTORNEY-GENERAL'S OFFICE HAD SHOWN THE MAGISTRATE A CERTIFICATE SIGNED BY THE ATTORNEY-GENERAL WHICH SAID IT WAS LIKELY THAT PUBLIC SECURITY WOULD BE PREJUDICED IF THE ACCUSED WERE GIVEN BAIL.

    ANYONE CONVICTED UNDER THE RELEVANT SECTIONS OF THE LAW AND ORDER MAINTENANCE ACT IS LIABLE TO THE DEATH PENALTY.
