Background: INTRODUCTION: M. Marc Villemain, the French Electricity Board's inspector General, has been touring the Ivory Coast's electrical installations and training centres.

SYNOPSIS: M. Villemain arrived in the ivory Coast after a personal invitation from the country's President, M. Felix Houphouet-Boigny. After official talks in Abidjan he visited a new electricity training centre in Bingerville, 16 miles (25 Kilometres) from the capital, on Tuesday (18 January).

The centre was built in the last four years with the assistance of France, Canada and italy. As the country's electrical industry is expanding, with the major dam in Kossu completed five years ago and another dam on the same Bandama river under construction, the Ivory Coast needs more electricians. The centre has also been training technical personnel for six other African countries.

French experts have been assisting the centre and a comprehensive training programme has been worked out with their help.
