Background: THE MOROCCAN-ALGERIAN BORDER DISPUTE CONTINUES. ON THE SOUTH-EAST MOROCCAN BORDER AT FIGUIG TROOPS ARE MASSING ON EITHER SIDE OF THE FRONTIER BUT IN THE LAST TWO DAYS NO INCIDENTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED.

AT BOU ARFA, SOME 20 MILES WEST OF THE MOROCCAN GARRISON AT ICH, 25 SURVIVORS HAVE BEEN FOUND AFTER THE GARRISON WAS ATTACKED THREE DAYS AGO BY ALGERIAN TROOPS. REPORTS SAY THAT ICH IS STILL IN ALGERIAN HANDS. IN THE VILLAGE THE INHABITANTS STAGED AN ANTI-BEN BELLA DEMONSTRATION, DECLARING THEIR LOYALTY TO KING HASSAN.

WHILE BOTH SIDES MASS TROOPS ALONG THE BORDER THERE ARE EFFORTS TO MEDIATE IN THE DISPUTE. THE ARAB LEAGUE COUNCIL HAS CALLED ON BOTH SIDES TO WITHDRAW THEIR TROOPS TO POSITIONS HELD PRIOR TO THE OUTBREAK OF HOSTILITIES AND APPOINTED A SIX-MEMBER MEDIATION COMMITTEE TO HELP SETTLE THE DISPUTE. EMPEROR HAILE SELASSIE OF ETHIOPIA HAS POSTPONED AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO PARIS IN ORDER TO FLY DIRECT FROM MOROCCO TO ALGIERS TO AID A SETTLEMENT, AND PRESIDENT NKRUMAH OF GHANA HAS APPEALED TO BOTH SIDES FOR A CEASEFIRE.

IN ALGERIA BOTH RADIO AND PRESS CONTINUE TO ATTACK KING HASSAN AND HIS REGIME, BUT FROM THE BATTLE AREAS, PARTICULARLY FROM HASSI BEIDA AND TINJOUB; WHERE THE MOST FREQUENT CLASHES HAVE OCCURRED, THERE HAS BEEN NO NEWS.
