    SPEECH (TRANSCRIPT):

SEQ. 5: MOI: "This planet is too small for us to quarrel. Too small for us to quarrel. We should work for common good. Those who have had the advantage of advancing in technology, should help those of us who have not. One day we may be able to advance. We may offer our own in the humblest way, but not in terms of what the superpowers can have."

Background: INTRODUCTION: Kenyan President Daniel Arap Moi was in New York on Thursday (24 September) to address the General Assembly. As chairman of the Organisation about the black African Unity, Mr. Moi had plenty to tell the Assembly about the black African states attitudes to South Africa, which has been a major topic at the UN this session.

SYNOPSIS: President Arap Moi was met at the United Nations in New York by the organisation's Secretary General Dr. Kurt Waldheim. With South Africa, Angola and Namibia all major items on the agenda of the current session Mr. Moi was warmly received in his capacity as president of the Organisation of African Unity.

There were many delegates to the UN keen to hear Mr. Moi.

In his address to the Assembly Mr. Moi said that the African states would take strong action against those nations who continued their sporting ties with South Africa. He said that South Africa should be completely isolated because of her apartheid policy. He also condemned Western countries who gave support to South Africa both with economic aid and at the UN. Mr. Moi also talked about Namibia (South West Africa) and urged the five nations involved in the peace plan to hurry their efforts to achieve independence.

In his address Mr. Moi also called for technological help for Africa.
