    THE 400 METRES EVENT WAS WON BY AHMED M. RIZK IN 4 MINUTES 41.4 SECONDS. MAHMOUD MAGDI ALSO OF THE U.A.R., WAS SECOND IN 4 MINUTES 56.8 SECONDS, WHILE THIRD PLACE WENT TO AN ALGERIAN, KHEMISSA, WHOSE TIME WAS 5 MINUTES 17 SECONDS. SWIMMING EVENTS DOMINATED WEDNESDAY'S PROGRAMME OF THE FIRST COMPLETELY AFRICAN GAMES.

    THE 200 METRES FREESTYLE WAS WON BY MAHMOUD MAGDI, WHO CAME SECOND IN THE LONGER EVENT. SECOND PLACE WENT TO WOODHOUSE, A SWIMMER FROM KENYA, WHOSE ATHLETES DOMINATED THE TRACK AND FIELD EVENTS AT THE GAMES ON WEDNESDAY. THIRD IN THE 200 METRES FREESTYLE WAS ALGERIA'S BELHOCILE.
