  • Description

Austria took the first two places, with Germany third, in the descent course of the French ski championships at Val D'Isere, Dec. 16. The winners were: (1) Traudl Hecher; (2) Erika Netzer; (3) Barbara Henneberger. The skiing provided many thrills ... and spills!
Annie Farmose, a young French girl from the Pyrenean region, crashed shortly after starting on the course. A group of men rushed forward to help her; and she completed the downward journey .. on a sled. She pulled a muscle, but was not seriously hurt, and was to take part in the following day's slalom events.

The course was steep - on the 2,000-metre run-down skiers dropped 545 meters. Traudl Hecher completed the descent in one minute fifty-two seconds, two seconds ahead of Erika Netzer. There were more than forty other competitors.
