  • Description

Girls on parade in David Jones (a Sydney Emporium) before the critical eye of fashion designer, Norman Hartnell. Mr. Hartnell was deciding which of these girls from all over Australia would have a trial as one of his London models ...that's Miss Catherine Doig, of Sydney.

Next is Miss Joyce Spier, of Perth.

Mr. Hartnell's attention is caught by Miss Lorraine Cherry, of Newcastle, in lime green satin.

From Cairns, from Melbourne, from Lord Howe Island, from Perth, they had come to parade before the Queen's dress designer; and finally he made his decision --- Miss Lorraine Cherry was the winner.

Miss Joyce Spier, of Perth and Miss Dawn Wilton of South Australia, were the runners up.

So for Miss Lorraine Cherry of Newcastle, there's a trip to London, a trial as a Hartnell model -- the sort of thing many girls of twenty dream about.

Mr. Hartnell said he chose Miss Cherry because of her height -- she is just on six feet tall.
