SV INTERIOR U. N. General Assembly -- Hamilton Shirley Amerasinghe of Sri Lanka (new President of General Assembly) addressing Assembly (centre) (with Secretary General Kurt Waldheim on left of picture) and declaring Seychelles admitted to the U. N. (10 shots)

AMERASINGHE: "In addition to the countries listed in those documents, the following have announced their desire to sponsor the draft resolution; Afghanistan, China, Iran, Ivory Coast, Mali, Rumania, Somalia, Syrian Arab Republic and Togo. May I take it that the General Assembly accepts the recommendation of Security Council and adopts it by exclamation. Any objection? It is so decided. I declare the Republic of Seychelled admitted to membership in the United Nations. Distinguished delegates, I am sure all members of this assembly rejoice at the administration of the Republic of Seychelles to membership of the United Nations. I extend a cordial welcome to the delegation of Seychelles to the United Nations and wish her people the blessings of peace, progress and happiness. It is appropriate that I should at the same time, congratulate the government of the United Kingdom on this further demonstration of its adherence to the principle of self-determination."
