AMERASINGHE: "In addition to the countries listed in those documents, the following have announced their desire to sponsor the draft resolution; Afghanistan, China, Iran, Ivory Coast, Mali, Rumania, Somalia, Syrian Arab Republic and Togo. May I take it that the General Assembly accepts the recommendation of Security Council and adopts it by exclamation. Any objection? It is so decided. I declare the Republic of Seychelled admitted to membership in the United Nations. Distinguished delegates, I am sure all members of this assembly rejoice at the administration of the Republic of Seychelles to membership of the United Nations. I extend a cordial welcome to the delegation of Seychelles to the United Nations and wish her people the blessings of peace, progress and happiness. It is appropriate that I should at the same time, congratulate the government of the United Kingdom on this further demonstration of its adherence to the principle of self-determination."
