Background: Two brothers, who cycled 7,000 miles from Singapore to London to join the Royal Air Force were filmed June 29 by VISNEWS at journey's end: Central Recruiting Office in Victory House, Kingsway. The new recruits -- 20-year-old Harry Bowyer and brother Leonard (18) hitched a lift from their home in Kuala Lumpur on an Indian freighter bound for Singapore, four and a half months ago.

The journey completed without mishaps -- not even a puncture -- cost them GBP17 each, most of it went on the Channel crossing. They arrived with only the clothes they were wearing. The local WVS is supplying them with new outfits.

On route to London they called on Mr.William Stanton of Waterlest Farm, near Ashburton, Devon -- because they knew a man who used to work there. With their new-found friends they completed the journey. "We have always been keen on the RAF", the brothers told VISNEWS .. "some English friends at home told us to join up!"
