    A new central transmitting station was opened in Kenya on Friday (18 February) for the East African Community Directorate of Civil Aviation.

    The transmitter will provide radio links for aircraft flying in the East Africa region--and will link Nairobi with other African airports.

    The transmitter is to be manned by African engineers, trained at the School of Aviation in Nairobi.

    The opening ceremony was performed by the Kenyan Vice-President, Mr. Daniel Rap Moi.

    SYNOPSIS: An officials plaque on the wall of the transmitter building will commemorate this occasion.

    After the ceremony Mr. Moi was shown around the station which will provide radio links for aircraft flying in East Africa, and links between airports in the region. The station has cost 237, 500 Kenya Pounds (GBP254,000 sterling) and will be manned by African engineers trained at the School of Aviation in Nairobi.
