    A COMMISSION OF DELEGATES FROM CAMEROUN, CONGO, GABON AND THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC HAS FINISHED WORK ON A REVISION OF THE TREATY OF THE CENTRAL AFRICAN CUSTOMS AND ECONOMIC UNION. THE COMMISSION MET IN BANGUI, CAPITAL OF THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC FROM 12-19 OCTOBER.

    A PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE FOUR NATION COMMISSION WAS TO CODIFY CUSTOMS REGULATIONS SO AS TO FACILITATE THE ECONOMIC INTEGRATION OF THE MEMBER COUNTRIES. THIS WAS A VERY DELICATE AND COMPLEX TASK AFFECTING THE WHOLE FUTURE OF THE CENTRAL CUSTOMS AND ECONOMIC UNION.

    MR. HENRI PAUL BOUNDIO, MINISTER FOR LAND AND RIVER TRANSPORT OF THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC AND CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMISSION, SAID THAT HE WAS CONFIDENT OF THE OUTCOME OF THE COMMISSION'S WORK BECAUSE OF THE ECONOMIC SUCCESS ALREADY ACHIEVED WITHIN THE UNION.

    MODIFICATIONS TO THE TREATY OF THE CENTRAL AFRICAN CUSTOMS AND ECONOMIC UNION WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE HEADS OF STATE OF THE FOUR NATIONS BELONGING TO THE UNION WHEN THEY MEET IN YAOUNDE, CAPITAL OF CAMEROUN, IN NOVEMBER.
