  • Description

Two top boxers from Ghana--Sulley Shittu and Victor Attivor--won easy victories on Saturday (18 July) to continue Africa's domination of the Commonwealth Games Boxing Tournament in Edinburgh.

Sulley Shittu, the flyweight champion in the 1966 games, took the bantamweight title this time with a unanimous points win over britain's Tony Oxley. Shittu floored the 26 year old English sailor in the first and second rounds.

Another impressive African win was Victor Attivor's clear points victory over the Canadian light heavyweight Darryl olsen. He clubbed the 19 year old seaman to a painful points defeat in the first light heavyweight bout.

Attivor, the Ghanaian heavyweight champion, was untroubled by Olsen's southpaw style and chased the Canadian from the opening bell. A swinging left bowled Olsen onto the canvas in the second round and he did well to survive the final round.

Both Ghanaian winner moved through to the quarter finals which take place at the Murrayfield Ice Rink on Monday (20 July) and Tuesday (21 July).
