    POLITICAL CAMPAIGNING IN THE INDIAN STATE OF KERALA HAS REACHED A PITCH, WITH ONLY TWO DAYS TO GO BEFORE THE VOTING FOR A NEW STATE LEGISLATURE. AMONG THE CAMPAIGNERS FOR THE CONGRESS PARTY IS MR. KRISHNA MENON, A FORMER DEFENCE MINISTER, WHO HAS BEEN MOVING FROM VILLAGE TO VILLAGE IN THE KOTTAYAM AREA. ON SATURDAY, HE VISITED THE VILLAGE OF KADATURTHY.

    A CROWD OF ABOUT 1,000 PEOPLE GREETED MR. MENON AS HE WALKED IN PROCESSION THROUGH THE STREETS OF KADATURTHY, AFTER BEING MET BY THE LOCAL CONGRESS PARTY CANDIDATE, MR. ABRAHAM. MR. MENON THEN MADE A SHORT SPEECH, IN WHICH HE DESCRIBED THE CONGRESS PARTY AS THE ONLY ONE ABLE TO FORM A STABLE GOVERNMENT IN KERALA.

    (IN THE ELECTIONS ON THE 4TH OF MARCH, 558 CANDIDATES FROM 14 PARTIES ARE CONTESTING THE 13??? SEATS. THE MAIN INTEREST IS IN THE CONTEST BETWEEN THE CONGRESS PARTY AND THE COMMUNISTS. KERALA IS THE ONLY INDIAN STATE EVER TO HAVE ELECTED A COMMUNIST GOVERNMENT, WHICH IT DID IN 1957.)
