    The second meeting of the Joint Commission of India and Iraq started in New Delhi on Monday (29 March).

    The Commission was originally set up in 1974, and the current session is reviewing the existing agreements between the two countries and trying to identify new areas of cooperation. It's expected to give further impetus to economic cooperation.

    The Iraqi delegation was led by Mr. Abdul Jalil, Iraq's Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research. The Indian side was led by Mr. K.D. Malaviya, the Minister for Petroleum. There is already wide-ranging cooperation between India and Iraq, including joint ventures in oil exploration. In January this year India and Iraq signed a programme of educational and cultural cooperation for 1976 and 1977. They have also signed agreements for collaboration on science and agricultural research and exchange of scientists and researchers.

    Later on Monday, Mr. Jalil held talks with the Indian Minister for Industries, Mr. T.A. Pai.

    Also in New Delhi on Monday was a delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) led by the UAE's Deputy Minister for Electricity and Water, Mr. Darwish. They are exploring the possibility of India's cooperation in energy and allied projects for the UAE. Mr. Darwish and his delegation held talks with India's Energy Minister, Mr. K.C. Pant.

    Mr. Abdul Jalil, the Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research led the Iraqi delegation. The meeting is reviewing existing agreements between the two countries and trying to identify new areas of cooperation. It's expected to give further impetus to their economic collaboration. They already have agreements on oil exploration and educational and cultural cooperation.

    Later on Monday, Mr. Jalil also had talks with the Indian Minister of Civil Supplies, Mr. T.A. Pai. Last year the two countries signed an agreement for collaboration on science and agricultural research and exchange of scientists and researchers.

    Also in New Delhi on Monday was a delegation from the United Arab Emirates. Its leader, Mr. Darwish, the Deputy Minster for Electricity and Water, was welcomed by the Indian Energy Minister, Mr. K.C. Pant.

    The UAE delegation was in India to explore the possibility of India's cooperation in energy and allied projects. Mr. Darwish and Mr. Pant held talks on possible joint ventures between the two countries.
