  • Description

A 26-year-old London music student, Ray Du-Val, holder of the world drumming record of 30 hours, set out Sept 21, to smash his own time -- by a further 51 hours.

Ray -- making the attempt in a smoke-filled basement club in Berwick Street, London -- heard recently that another musician had created a record of 80 hours. This new time is unofficial, but in case he has lost his title, Ray wants to reach 81 hours.

While beat-drugged teenagers give to the pounding drums, Ray keeps going on cigarettes, milk, wine and fruit. From time to time friends come round to accompany him on other instruments -- and help him stay awake. If his new bid is successful, Ray will lay down the drumsticks on September 24 -- at midnight.
