    ZAMBIA'S FIRST MOTOR SHOW GOT OFF TO A SPECTACULAR ON SATURDAY AT NDOLA WHEN THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR THE WESTERN PROVINCE, MR. PETER CHANDA ARRIVED TO OPEN THE SHOW IN A 1934 VINTAGE LAGONDA.

    THE MOTOR SHOW HAS BEEN ORGANISED BY THE NDOLA MOTOR SPORTS CLUB. IT IS HOPED TO MAKE THE SHOW AN ANNUAL EVENT. THIS YEAR THE CLUB IS HOPING TO RAISE GBP10-THOUSAND TO BUILD A MOTOR RACING CIRCUIT.

    ON DISPLAY WERE THE LATEST MODEL CARS, MOTOR CYCLES AND COMMERCIAL VEHICLES AND CAMPING AND CARAVANING EQUIPMENT.

    IN HIS OPENING SPEECH MR. CHANDA DREW ATTENTION TO ZAMBIA'S ROAD TOLLS SINCE JANUARY -- 274 KILLED AND 2,000 INJURED. HE DESCRIBED IT AS WASTAGE OF HUMAN RESOURCES.

    THEN FOLLOWED A SPECTACULAR PARADE OF VEHICLES IN THE SHOW, INCLUDING MINI COOPERS, TRIUMPH 2000'S AND SPITFIRE SPORTS CARS, AND IMPORTED AMERICAN CARS.

    THE SPORTS CARS DROVE IN FORMATION IN A DEMONSTRATION DESCRIBED AS A 'BALLET OF AUTOMOBILES'. THE DRIVERS WERE MEMBERS OF THE MOTOR SPORTS CLUB, AND EXPERT DRIVERS.

    AMONG THE ENTERTAINMENTS AWAY FROM THE TRACKING AND MOTOR DISPLAYS WAS A MODEL RACING CAR KIT.
