    Some 54 former Moslem rebels took their oath and became probationary 2nd lieutenants last Friday (January 9) at Fort Bonifacio Army School Centre falling a five-month officer training course.

    At the graduation ceremony for former Moslem insurgents, Read Admiral Romule Espaldon, Chief of the Southwest Military Command in Mindanao, said more then 15,000 Moslem rebels had surrendered to the Government since the outbreak of the Moslem rebellion int he southern Philippines in 1973.

    Admiral Espaldon said the Government planned to train a total of 1,000 former rebels for integration into the Philippine armed forces as part of its effort to restore place in Mindanao, 500 miles south of Manila, where Moslem insurgents are fighting for autonomy.

    Officials previously estimated the southern guerillas armed strength at 20,000 men.
