    IN MANY CENTRES WHICH HAVE LARGE INDIAN POPULATIONS BUSINESS HOUSES OWNED BY INDIANS CLOSED AND FLAGS WERE FLOWN AT HALF MAST.

    NAIROBI, THE KENYA CAPITAL, IS ONE OF MANY AFRICAN CITIES WHICH HAVE A LARGE INDIAN COMMUNITY. NEWS OF MR. SHASTRI'S DEATH WAS BROUGHT TO THE INDIAN PEOPLE OF NAIROBI IS SPECIAL EDITIONS OF THE CITY'S TWO MAIN NEWSPAPERS.

    IMMEDIATELY INDIAN SHOPKEEPERS IN NAIROBI LEARNED OF THE DEATH THEY CLOSED THEIR PREMISES AS A TOKEN OF RESPECT AND MOURNING. SCORES OF PEOPLE WENT TO THE OFFICE OF THE INDIAN HIGH COMMISSION TO SIGN A CONDOLENCE BOOK.

    MORE THAN 100-THOUSAND PEOPLE OF INDIAN ORIGIN LIVE IN KENYA.
