  • Description

Several tons of food and medical supplies were flown from Israel to Lebanon on Thursday (12 August).

SYNOPSIS: The supplies were loaded onto an aircraft at Ben Gurion airport. They had been collected by West Bank residents and were transported to Lebanon by the International Red Cross organisation. It was the fifth such flight carrying aid to Lebanon from Israel, and the supplies amounted to a couple of truck loads. On the Lebanese border, Israeli Army teams have begun distributing post cards to southern Lebanese villagers.

The cards are to enable the villagers to communicate with relatives in Israel, and they have been issued by the Red Shield of David - the Israeli equivalent of the Red Cross. The cards have been issued at the request of both Israeli and Lebanese Arabs who wanted to contact family members. The Israeli Army has told villagers that if they do not know their relatives' addresses, the Army will try to trace them. Several hundred cards have already been issued.
