THE STUDENTS HAD STAGED A RALLY IN THE UNIVERSITY OF CALCUTTA CAMPUS TO PROTEST AGAINST THE DISMISSAL OF WEST BENGAL'S UNITED FRONT GOVERNMENT AND THE INSTALLATION OF A NEW GOVERNMENT.

    SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES IN CALCUTTA WERE RE-OPENED YESTERDAY AFTER BEING CLOSED FOR 12 DAYS. STUDENTS FROM NINE LEFT-WING ORGANISATIONS ASSEMBLED AT THE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS WHEN THE GATES WERE OPENED. AFTER A ATTACKING POLICE.

    IT WAS ALL PART OF A CALL BY THE STUDENTS' ORGANISATIONS FOR A "PROTEST WEEK." THE STUDENTS PLAN TO HOLD DEMONSTRATIONS AND MOCK TRIALS OF THE GOVERNOR OF WEST BENGAL AND THE STATE'S NEW GOVERNMENT LEADER, DR. GHOSH. DR. GHOSH'S GOVERNMENT HAS THE BACKING OF THE CENTRAL CONGRESS PARTY GOVERNMENT IN NEW DELHI.
