Background: At the United Nations, the Albanian Foreign Minister, Mr. Neste Nase, warned on Thursday (6 October) that no country can impose its will on Albania. He addressed his warning both to the United States and the Soviet Union.
SYNOPSIS: Addressing a meeting of the General Assembly in New York, Mr. Nase reiterated Albania's policy of independent socialism. But he warned what he called the imperialist powers that his country was not isolated. Speaking in French, Mr. Nase said that these powers need have no illusions about their ability to dictate to Albania. And he said that both the United States and the Soviet Union were equally dangerous, which contrasts with the views expressed by Albania's long time ally, China, that the Soviet Union was the more dangerous of the super powers. But Mr. Nase told the Assembly experience had shown quite convincingly that the two imperialist super powers, the United States and the Soviet Union, are equally dangerous--to the same extent and to the same degree.
Mr. Nase said that Albania had for a long time denounced the Warsaw pact, between other Communist countries in Eastern Europe, and promised that Albania herself would never be part of military alliance with any country. Albania, he said, was against all forms of aggression. And he stressed that his country was against colonialist exploitation and racial segregation. He warned any aggressor who dared to encroach on the frontiers of his country that they would be repelled. The people of Albania, he went on, would never allow themselves to be dictated to.
