Background: Tennis....and former Wimbledon champion, Mrs. Margaret Court of Australia, crushed Britain's Virginia Wade, 6-1, 6-1, in 35 minutes to win this year's Dewar Cup indoor series in London on Saturday (18 November)
The win was Mrs Court's fifth in the series...she beat Miss Wade on the four previous occasions.
The series was a comeback for Mrs. Court who retired a few years ago...today she was back with a vengeance. She was so dominant with her pace and precision that Miss Wade, angry at her apparent lack of form, hit the ball into the stop-netting several times, an on one occasion shouted.."God she can't miss can she." The first set was over in 9 minutes, with Miss Wade winning only nine points. In the second, Miss Wade scrambled through the fifth game, but the respite was only brief before Mrs Court ended the match.
