Background: After four days of meetings, the Iraq government and a visiting ministerial mission from Rumania were able to announce a closer identity of opinion on the Middle East confrontation.
In a final communique on Tuesday (April 24th), the two sides expressed deep concern at the dangerous situation in the Middle East resulting from Israeli attacks upon the Arabs, and they pledged joint support for the Palestinian cause.
The ruling parties of the two countries also agreed to work for a closer agreement between their peoples in the future.
Earlier, Rumanian Foreign Minister Cornell Manescu led his delegation in playing tribute at the monument of the Unknown Soldier in Baghdad.
SYNOPSIS: In Baghdad last week, Rumanian Foreign Minister Cornell Manescu led fellow countrymen inn paying tribute at the Tomb of the Iraqi Unknown Soldier. Dr. Manescu was there at the head of a strong Rumanian delegation. During a four-day visit, the mission was to be involved in intensive discussions with Iraqi government representatives, comparing views on political philosophies, and discussing how the ruling parties of the two countries could work for closer relations of their peoples.
This particular session of talks went on for two hours. Iraqi Foreign Minister Murtadah Saeed Abdul Baqi joined his Rumanian counterpart, Mr. Manescu. At the end of the visit on Tuesday, the two sides released a joint communique condemning Israeli aggression and supporting the Palestinian cause.
