  • Description

Having witnessed all kinds of ill-treatment to animals after the last war, Lady Brooke founded a hospital in 1932, on the strength of donations she received from animal lovers in many parts of the world.

Apart from the hospital, Lady Brooke built up a mobile veterinary service to visit the markets and villages in the Cairo district and suburbs to search for sick animals and give treatment where possible. One such market place recently visited by our cameraman was Badrachein.

A Dr. Shenouda was the veterinary surgeon on duty that day. While Dr. Mourad Raghab was attending to the sick inmates of the hospital.

In 1934 Lady Yule Ward made a donation, and another wing was added to the hospital. No sacrifice was too great for Lady Brooks who had given a lifetime in the service of animals - more especially animals of the poor.

Cart drivers will always remember this gallant Lady with gratitude.

In spite of the many difficulties to be overcome, this institution - directed by the two vets already mentioned, - is carrying on the good work and living up to the best traditions of its founder.
