  • Description

Three members of the Australian Parliament arrived at Hollandia's Sentani airport, Netherlands New Guinea, July 6, on a short visit at the invitation of the Governor, Dr J.P. Platteel.

They were Mr. P.E. Lucock, Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Board of Australia's House of Representatives and former member of the advisory body to UN; Mr R.S. King, a member of the same Board; and New South Wales Senator J.A. MacCallum.

Although not on an official visit, the three Australians were taking a close interest in the social and political development of Netherlands New Guinea and its possible influence on the Australian part of the island.

After talks with Government officials, prominent Papuans, and the C-in-C of the Naval Forces, they were due to continue their journey to Lae and Rabaul in Australian New Guinea.
