  • Description

A GROUP OF ELEVEN ASIANS FROM UGANDA HAVE BEEN STRANDED AT FRANKFURT AIRPORT FOR FIVE DAYS HAVING BEEN REFUSED RE-ENTRY TO THEIR COUNTRY.

THE ASIANS HAD NOT LEFT UGANDA TOGETHER, BUT MET WHEN THEY BECAME STRANDED IN EUROPE. HAVING BEEN REFUSED ENTRY TO LUXEMBOURG, THEY HAD RETURNED TO ENTEBBE, UGANDA, WHERE OFFICIALS WOULD NOT LET THEM BACK INTO THE COUNTRY. THEY FLEW BACK TO EUROPE FROM NAIROBI, AND WERE FINALLY ALLOWED TO STAY A FEW DAYS IN FRANKFURT.

INCREASING NUMBERS OF ASIANS WITH BRITISH PASSPORTS, AND OTHER NON-UGANDAN CITIZENS, ARE FINDING THEMSELVES WITHOUT JOBS AND WITH NOWHERE TO GO FOLLOWING PRESIDENT MILTON OBOTE'S NATIONALISATION PROGRAMME. MANY LARGE COMPANIES STARTED AND BUILT UP BY ASIAN SETTLERS TO UGANDA ARE BEING TAKEN OVER BY THE GOVERNMENT.

PRESIDENT OBOTE, AT THE RECENT OPENING OF PARLIAMENT, ATTACKED THE NON-CITIZENS FOR NEVER HAVING IDENTIFIED THEMSELVES WITH UGANDA OR AFRICA, AND REITERATED HIS GOVERNMENT'S INTENTION TO GET RID OF THEM.
