    A 207-FOOT HIGH MOBILE TOWER CRANE IS HELPING TO CUT BUILDING TIME BY 30 PER CENT. ON THREE BLOCKS OF MAISONETTES AND FLATS BEING BUILT AT MAIDA VALE, LONDON. THE CRANE, WITH A TELESCOPIC INNER MAST TO THE TOWER HEAD, IS CLAIMED TO BE THE HIGHEST FREE TRAVELLING CRANE IN THE WORLD AND WEIGHS 60 TONS.

    THE CONTRACTORS ARE USING IT TO LIFT BUILDING STRUCTURES, SOME WEIGHING 3 1/2 TONS, BUT IT CAN LIFT UP TO 10 TONS. F.POTAIN AND CO., OF LA CLAVETTE, FRANCE, MAKER AND DISTRIBUTOR OF THE CRANE, IS AT PRESENT BUILDING ONE 600-FEET HIGH WHICH WILL BE USED IN NEW YORK DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF A HOTEL.

    THIS CRANE AT WORK IN LONDON TRAVELS ON A 450-FOOT RAIL TRACK, SERVICING EACH OF THE THREE BLOCKS OF BUILDINGS IN SIMULTANEOUS CONSTRUCTION. IT IS SELF-ERECTING - TIME NEEDED TO DO IT: 4 5 DAYS. THE JIB, FROM END TO END, IS 190 FEET.
