  • Description

The Kansas City Royals continued their pursuit of league leading Oakland in the American League West by defeating the Chicago White Sex 7-0 in Chicago on Thursday (4 September).

The Royals were aided by a four-run third inning in which Jim Wolford drove in the first two Kansas City runs with a hard rounder that got past out-fielder Bucky Dent. He walked seven men in the second and third innings he was on the mound. He was pulled in the third inning and replaced by Dan Osborne.

Later in the third inning, Frank White hit a bases loaded single which drove in two runs. That was enough pad to give easy sailing to Kansas City pitcher Paul Splitorff who was eventually credited with the win, his eight against eight losses.

Ken Kravick was credited with the loss. It was his first Major League start.

Kansas City has still failed to closed the gap on Oakland because Oakland is continuing to win as well.
