Pakistani Muslims have been praying for Arab success in the Middle East war with Israel. Prime Minister, Mr. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has repeatedly said that Pakistan, as an Islamic and ideological state, will always uphold the "just cause" of the Arabs and the principles of justice and equality.
In a recent speech Mr. Bhutto said: "We would do whatever we can within our limited resources to be of assistance to the just cause of the Arab people, which we uphold dearly and consider to be a part of our own struggle".
Hundreds of Muslims on Friday (12 October) gave a public display of their pro-Arab feeling with a demonstration and march through the streets of karachi. Members of Anjum-i-Tulaba-i-Islam together with Arab students in Pakistan raised banners, chanted slogans and paraded in the city.
Friday was a day of prayer throughout Pakistan, a day proclaimed by the Government as one for the success of the Arab war effort.
Mr. Bhutto has consulted with his military chiefs of staff to see what Pakistan can do, within its limited resources, to assist the Arabs in their war with Israel. It has been announced that the country is sending medical teams to Egypt and Syria.
