Background: The Netherland's Ambassador Mr A. Van der Maade, presented 25,000 doses of cholera vaccine to the Ivory Coast Government at a ceremony in Abidjan on Wednesday (30 Sept).
The vaccine is the first half of a consignment being sent by the Dutch Government. At the Hygiene Institute, Mr Van der Maade was greeted by Ivory Coast Director-General of Health, Dr Sery.
The Dutch Government has been meeting similar requests from several African countries. The second half of the vaccine supplies will be delivered as soon as laboratories in Holland can meet the demand.
The total value of the vaccine promised to the Abidjan Government is about 3,750 pounds sterling(8,200 dollars). The vaccine will be sent to the town of Odienne for vaccinating villagers who live on the border with Guinea.
