A delegation from Kuwait arrived in Baghdad this week (26 Feb) led by Foreign Minister Sheikh Sebah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber. They were welcomed on their official mission to Iraq by Sd. Taha Al-Jazrewi, the Minister for Industry, and Sd. Abdula Al-Kudair, Minister of Unity.
The Kuwait delegation arrived on the same day Iraq called on other Arab nations to withhold oil from countries which continued to help Israel. The announcement was made in a newspaper known to reflect government thinking. The paper said that when the proposal was originally made, in confidence, at the January meeting of the Arab Defence Council, some states opposed it while others asked iraq to resort to realism.
SYNOPSIS: The Foreign Minister of Iraq, Taha al-Jazrawi, and Minister for Industry Abdula Al-Kudair, led a welcoming party at Baghdad airport Monday to greet a visiting Kuwait delegation. The Kuwaitis were led by their Foreign Minister, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber.
The visitors arrived on the day Iraq announced it was asking other Arab nations to withdraw oil supplies from countries which continued to support Israel. The semi-official newspaper which published the story, revealed that Iraq had received a mixed recaption when it originally raised the idea at the January meeting of the Arab Defence League.
