    More than 2,000 demonstrators marched through the streets of West Berlin on Saturday (30 December) in protest against the United States bombing of North Vietnam.

    The demonstrators marched on the United States Information Centre where they had panned a rally. Police, however, surrounded the building with a barrier of barbed wire and stood by with water cannons to reinforce their authority.

    The protesters carried banners and placards while loudspeakers blared out anti-United States slogans.

    SYNOPSIS: More than two thousand demonstrators marched through the streets of West Berlin on Saturday to protest against United States bombing of North Vietnam. Carrying red banners and placards, the demonstrators marched on the United States Information centre. In front of the march, a van carried loudspeakers blaring pro-North Vietnam and anti-United States slogans.

    West Berlin police ringed the United States building with a barrier of barbed wire and called in water cannons in case the protest erupted into violence.

    The demonstrators rallied outside the building for several hours before they dispersed. There was no sign of any violence.
