SYNOPSIS: Armed raiders attacked eighteen police stations throughout Cyprus on Tuesday night. They blew up three with dynamite charges as they fled. The raiders stole one police vehicle and destroyed another with a hand-grenade.

Those stations destroyed were in the Famagusta district where raiders stole weapons, ammunition, police uniforms and radio equipment.

As policemen searched the wreckage President Makarios accused former Eoka leader, General Grivas, of organising armed resistance to his Government in attempts to upset the presidential election.

Most of the police stations attacked were small village or rural posts. The police were outnumbered, but in six cases, the attackers were driven off by police defenders. There were no deaths or serious injuries, reported in the explosions or the gunfights which broke out.
