    TAKING A BREAK FROM ITS RETURN JOURNEY TO MIAMI, FLORIDA, THE U.S. FISHERIES RESEARCH SHIP 'UNDAUNTED' DOCKED AT TEMA HARBOUR, GHANA AT THE END OF LAST MONTH (28 APRIL). THE 'UNDAUNTED' HAS COMPLETED A THREE-MONTH FISHERIES RESEARCH MISSION - ITS PURPOSE, TO ANALYZE THE FISHERIES POTENTIAL ALONG THE GUINEA COAST OF WEST AND SOUTH-WEST AFRICA.

    THE F.W.S. 'UNDAUNTED' ARRIVED FROM LOBITO IN ANGOLA, WHERE MOST OF ITS RESEARCH WORK HAS BEEN DONEE. IT CARRIES A CREW OF SEVENTEEN, SEVEN SCIENTISTS, AND IS CAPTAINED BY CAPTAIN SORENSEN. THE VESSEL WAS FORMERLY A U.S. NAVY TUG, COMMISSIONED IN 1944. IT HAS AN OVERALL LENGTH OF 143 FEET (43 M), A BEAM OF 33 FEET (10 M), AND IS 17 FEET DEEP (5 M).

    DR. GRANT BEARDSLEY, THE CHIEF SCIENTISTS AND FIELD PARTY CHIEF OF THE MISSION TOLD NEWSMEN THAT HE AND HIS TEAM HAVE COLLECTED VERY USEFUL DATA DURING THE MISSION, WHICH HE AND MRS TEAM AKLISVED WOULD BENEFIT BOTH HIS GOVERNMENT, AND THAT OF THE AFRICAN COUNTRIES, INCLUDING GHANA, ALONG WHOSE COAST THE MISSION TOOK PLACE. HE HOPED SUCH COUNTRIES WOULD AVAIL THEMSELVES OF THE DATA AND INFORMATION WHICH HIS MISSION HAS GATHERED. THE RESEARCH WORK IS BEING SPONSORED BY THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR.

    BUT THE VISIT WAS SHORT - 'UNDAUNTED' LEFT FOR ABIDJAN, IVORY COAST, THE SAME EVENING (SUNDAY).
