    Sudan's President, Major General Jaafar Mohammed el Nimery, who is on a six-day visit to the United Kingdom, was the luncheon guest of Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday (27 March).

    With the Queen was her daughter Princess Anne, who had visited Khartoum, Sudan's capital, only about a month ago and had then met the President.

    The luncheon guests included the President's wife, British Foreign Secretary Sir Alec Douglas-Home, Lady Douglas-Home and General Sir Michael Carver, Chief of the General Staff.

    Earlier in the day, President Nimery discussed regional government and economic development questions with Mr. Gordon Campbell, Secretary of State for Scotland. Britain has contributed about 750,000 pounds sterling (1.8 million U.S. dollars) worth of aid mainly for the rehabilitation of the Southern Sudan.

    In the afternoon the Sudanese leader visited the House of Commons and heard Prime Minister Edward Heath answer Parliamentary questions on home and international affairs.

Britain has contributed about seven hundred and fifty thousand pounds worth of aid, mainly for the rehabilitation of the Southern Sudan. The Sudanese leader visited the House of Commons later in the afternoon and heard Prime Minister Edward Heath speak. Before leaving the Palace the President inspected a guard of honour of the Second Battalion of the Grenadier Guards.
