The Secretary of the United States Treasury, Mr. John Connally, paid a courtesy call upon President Suharto on Friday. Mr. Connally was visiting Indonesia on his tour of South East Asia explaining and examining the implications of President Nixon's recent economic policies. He has already called at Saigon -- where he also represented the US President at President Thieu's inauguration -- followed by visits to Bangkok and Manila.
Mr. Connally's tour coincides with a tour by Robert McNamara, former US Defence Secretary and now President of the World Bank. Mr. McNamara concentrates on Japan, where the effects of President Nixon's policies have been particularly badly received. His itinerary also includes Bangkok and Manila, ending in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
