  • Description

Ministers of 18 European nations with the United States and Canada, examined a proposal for an expanded economic organization, which would succeed the Organization for European Economic Co-Operation, in Paris, July 22. The new organization would aim at co-ordinating the economic policies of member nations and promote the economic expansion of the free world.

As yet the organization has only a name, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. The United States and Canada will be full members of the successors to OEEC, where before they were only associate members.

A special committee has been appointed to work out a draft mandate for the new organization, that will be agreeable to all possible members. At the present discussions the United States are represented by Under Secretary of State Douglas Dillon, Britain by Chancellor of the Exchequer Derick Heathcoat Amory and France by Foreign Minister Maurice Couve de Murville.
