An important semi-final soccer match in the Algerian Football Cup Championship was won on Saturday (22 April) by an Algiers city team, USKA. USKA will now play the Belcourt team in the final.
SYNOPSIS: USKA, playing left to right in the red shirts, were playing KOUBA, a team from the suburbs of Algiers. KOUBA's attacking game seemed at times too much for USKA, but valuable opportunities to score were missed.
Attacks on goal by both sides ended indecisively. This corner, taken by KOUBA in the light shirts, ended in confusion. A free kick to KOUBA did little to advance the match, and at half-time neither side had managed to score.
KOUBA, now playing left to right, attacked down-wing early in the second half. The defenders blocked the attack, and conceded the corner. A shot at goal was headed out by an USKA defender and quickly recovered by the attackers, but the effort was wasted. A subsequent attack by USKA ended with a scramble in front of the opposing goal, but again there was no score.
The scoreboard at the end of the game showed no score, and the semi-final had to be decided on penalties. Here again, both sides lost valuable opportunities by inaccurate kicking. Gradually the score went to one-all, but the scoring was still slow.
Then USKA scored, to go into the lead by two goals to one. The lead changed a number of times during the penalty period.
USKA demonstrated its slight edge over KOUBA, and the end was in sight. Despite a number of misses, the final goal was scored by USKA which won the game four-three.
