SYNOPSIS: Easter Sunday in Jerusalem. It started in traditional fashion with the Patriarch of Jerusalem leaving his residence to lead a procession to the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre. The Patriarch is the highest-ranking Roman Catholic prelate in the Holy Land.

Every year, Monsignor Beltriti leads the procession to what is among the most sacred shrines of the Christian faith. There he conducts the Pontifical High Mass -- aided by Church dignitaries from inside the holy Land, and from other parts of the World. It's a service the faithful travel thousands of miles to attend. Among the congregation on Sunday were pilgrims and clergy from dozens of countries.

This year the Easter Festival for the Roman Catholic and Protestant communities coincided with the Jewish Festival of Passover. The two great religious ???sts have meant that the city has been packed with a greater number of tourists than at any time since the Middle East War in 1967.
