Background: South Korea now has a new Premier to lead the country's 22-member Cabinet. Yoo Chang-Soon, the president of the government-influenced Korea Traders' Association was sworn in by President Chun Doo Hwan at a ceremony in the South Korean capital of Seoul on Monday (4 January). Five new members of the Cabinet were also sworn in. Monday also marked the end of a 36-year midnight to four a.m. curfew for Seoul's citizens. The curfew came into force after South Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule in 1945, and was extended throughout and after the 1950-53 war with North Korea. It has remained in force since then to stop infiltration by agents from Communist North Korea and even now the curfew will continue in areas bordering North Korea. The South Korean government has removed the curfew in many areas, as part of the preparations for the 1988 Olympics and to encourage tourism.
