  • Description

Eight hundred delegates from sixty-two countries attended the six-day Conference of the Universal Federation of Travel Agents in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, which ended on Saturday (24 November).

The Conference, the first to be held in Africa, discussed a number of issues affecting the tourist industry, including the likelihood of increased air fares and ways of attracting foreign investment for tourism to countries like the Ivory Coast. In all, seventeen African countries were represented at this year's conference.

As part of the conference activities, delegates were taken on tours of tourist attractions in the Ivory. They visited Abidjan Museum, the Timber Park, the souvenir market and Banco Forest in the centre of Abidjan.

Banco Forest is a tourist attraction featuring traditional native customs and dress in a jungle setting. The delegates were treated to a picnic lunch and traditional dancing in the unique setting on Saturday just before the conference's close.
