Background: 120,000 gift parcels a day are streaming across the West-East German border to friends and relatives in the Communist-held zone. The postal station at Brunswick, Dec. 18, was swamped with food parcels and the like. Red Cross appeals increased the torrent of parcels piercing the iron curtain.
Students are employed during the last week before Christmas to help out with the sorting. Although those mountains of parcel look insurmountable they'll be well on their way to East Germany by Christmas in sealed goods wagons.
