  • Description

VISNEWS June 4 at Nottingham's Trent Bridge, filmed the opening day of the scheduled five-day Test cricket match between England and India.

Peter May won the toss, and England's new opening pair - Milton and Taylor - went in to bat on a good wicket. England seemed set for a big score. India's bowling was opened by Desai and Surendra Nath.

Losing three men - Milton, Taylor and Cowdrey - for a total of 38 before lunch, England's supporters feared a rot had set in, but then the Surrey pair - Captain Peter May and Ken Barrington, came to the rescue, scoring 162 between them.

They were followed by wicket-keeper Godfrey Evans and Horton, who flogged the Indian bowling, Evans racing to his fifty in three-quarters of an hour. He made 73 before being caught by Umrigar off Nadkarni.

England finished the day with 358 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of six wickets.
