  • Description

"British Light", 35,000-ton oil tanker for British Petroleum Ltd., London, is filmed during launching at the Anseldo shipyards, Genoa, Italy, October 12.

Blessed by Archbishop Siri of Genoa, the tanker was launched by Signore Greta Mattei, wife of Italian Government oil boss, Enrico Mattei.

The launching gives weight to the suggestions that British companies may be looking further away from their own country their ship-building requirements.

When the "British Light" takes to see, her 35,000-ton weight will equal that of Britain's major war-time battleships - warships of the "King George V" class which have now been scrapped.

But even this British oil carrier is small compared with some of the "super-tankers" of over 60,000 tons that are now planned and under construction in the world shipyards.
