    The U.S.S.R. recently hosted an international swimming competition to help in the selection of competitors in the forthcoming European Championships in Austria.

    Swimmers from ten European countries competed for prizes offered by the newspaper "Pravda".

    No world or European records were set. But Finnish swimmer Tuoma Kerola twice broke his country's record for the 200 metre breast-stroke.

    Brighita Enit of the Netherlands also set a new Dutch record for the 100 metres -- one minute 5.9 seconds.

    The Soviet team included members of the armed forces, who won the main prize of the competition -- the "Crystal Boat".

    SYNOPSIS: Moscow was the venue of an international swimming competition recently contested by ten European countries. The swimmers competed for prizes offered by the newspaper, "Pravda".

    No new world or European records were set, but there were some new national records. The competition helped national selectors to chose their teams for the forthcoming European Swimming Championships in Austria.
