  • Description

Interim Argentine president Italo Luder attended a mass marking the anniversary of the assassination of Argentine Labour leader Jose Rucci on Thursday (25 September).

Senor Rucci, who led the General Labour Confederation (CGT) was gunned down on 25 September, 1973, by assassins believed to be members of the left wing Montoneres Guerrilla organisation.

Also attending the mass in Buenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral was the General Secretary of the CGT, Casildo Herrora.

Meantime, the struggle against left wing guerrillas was continuing. During the 24 hours between 25-26 September, police reported arresting 24 suspected left wing guerrillas in raids in several provinces.

And on Friday, three more people died violently. Two suspected left wing guerrillas were killed in a shootout with police in Buenos Aires and a girl university student was found shot to death in Rasario, 310 kilometres (200 miles) north of the capital. She was found between two male students who had also been shot, but they were taken to hospital and reported to be in serious condition. The three students, all left wingers, were kidnapped by the university on Thursday. Police found placards next to them which said, "Anniversary of the death of Rucci. the Fatherland claims justice." The slogans indicated the murderers were right wing gunmen.
