    The finalists in Zambia's annual National Competition went before the judges at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka on Saturday (October 6th).

    The four finalists, from Lusaka, Kitwe, Ndola and Livingstone, were the winners of heats, held at agricultural exhibitions earlier in the year. They designed their own dresses.

    The winner of the competition was Miss. Jean Manda of Lusaka, who received a trophy from last year's winner Agnes Mfula. Herorize also included a trip to Mauritius, clothes and cash.

    The panel of judges included the Mayor of Lusaka, Fleetfort Chirwa.

    SYNOPSIS: At the Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka, the Zambian capital on Saturday, finalists in the annual National Dress Competition went before the judges.

    Mrs. Betty Dowling, a well-known dress designer, was one of the judges. There were four finalists this year; from Lusaka, Kitwe, Ndola and Livingstone. They designed their own dresses from materials supplied by the sponsors, a company partly financed by the Zambian government.

    An eye-catching striped outfit...But it was Miss Jean Manda of Lusaka who won this year's competition. Her prize included a trip to Mauritius, as well as clothes and cash. She also received a trophy from last year's winner, Agnes Mfula.
