    Newsmen and the Australian Minister of Supply, recently visited the newly completed GBPA 300,000 radio-telescope at Island Lagoon, near Woomera, the rocket station on the edge of the Australian desert.

    The dish-shaped receiver, 85-feet in diameter, has an estimated range of 7 million miles into space. Later addictions to the equipment will enable it to transmit
    Built and paid for by the United States Government as part of a joint deep space probe programme, it is one of three such satellite tracking telescopes set up by the American National Aeronautics and Space Administration to assist in their 'Project Mercury' - man in space programme. The other two telescopes are in California, USA, and Pretoria, South Africa.
