    Background: Egypt's Foreign Minister, Ismail Fahmi arrived back in Cairo on Saturday (11 June) following two rounds of talks in Moscow with his Soviet counterpart Andrei Gromyko, aimed at resolving the tension between their two countries.

    SYNOPSIS: The occurred when President Anwar Sadat scrapped the two countries' friendship treaty 15 months ago. Relations have been strained ever since. As a result of Mr. Fahmi's visit, the Soviet Union and Egypt issued a joint warning that continued Israeli occupation of Arab territories could cause a new conflict in the Middle East. The atmosphere at the talks was described as constructive.

    Mr. Fahmi told newsmen there hadn't actually been a reconciliation between the Soviet Union and Egypt, but concrete measures had been considered to ease tension.

    There to welcome, Mr. Fahmi was the Arab League Secretary-General, Mr. Mahmoud Raid. he talked to newsmen.
